Mount Saint Joseph University is a private, 4-year catholic school located near Cincinnati, OH. The school was founded in 1920 by the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati as the College of Mount St. Joseph as the first catholic women’s college in the region. in 2014, the school achieved university status. The 90+ acre campus features traditional sandstone buildings and a bell tower around a central quad with many open spaces and wooded areas. The campus sits near the Ohio River a few miles west of downtown Cincinnati, not far from the Embshoff Woods and Nature Preserve, a 330 acre park with trails, a Parcour fitness course and a disc-golf course.

Academic Programs

Mount Saint Joseph University is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, The Higher Learning Commission and offers Bachelor’s degrees, post-baccalaureate Certificates, Master’s degrees and Doctorates in over 35 programs. The University is comprised of five schools: School of Arts & Humanities, School of Behavioral & Natural Sciences, School of Business, School of Education and School of Health Sciences. Noted for Nursing, Teacher Education and Music, the largest programs on campus are in Healthcare related fields and Business. Presently, there are limited online degree and certificate programs available; however, there is a robust experiential learning program including internships, study abroad and “service learning.” Per the Mission Statement, “Mount St. Joseph University is a Catholic academic community grounded in the spiritual values and vision of its founders, the Sisters of Charity. The University educates its students through interdisciplinary liberal arts and professional curricula emphasizing values, integrity and social responsibility.”

Student Life

There are over 1,500 undergraduate students enrolled in Mount Saint Joseph University, most of whom live on campus in Seton Residence Halls which offers traditional dormitory rooms and suites. The University sponsors dozens of clubs and student organizations, including club sports and intramurals. For the varsity athlete, the blue and gold Lions field teams in 11 sports and participate in NCAA Division III competition. The annual calendar includes such traditions as the Campus Fair in the Fall, Christmas celebrations in the Winter and Easter in the Spring. The close proximity to Cincinnati offers a wide variety of activities for the student including the Cincinnati Art Museum, Freedom Center, Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens, Paul Brown Stadium, Great American Ballpark, Perfect North Slopes, Paramount’s Kings Island, and many more.
