Indiana Wesleyan University is a private, 4-year institution located in Marion, IN, which lies about halfway between Indianapolis and Fort Wayne. The school was founded in 1920 as Marion Normal College; then after massive growth, the school reached university status and in 1988 the school was given its present name. IWU is largest member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities as well as the largest private university in Indiana. The 345 acre campus features a variety of architectural styles, due primarily to the major construction and renovation projects over the past 25 years. The 3800 seat University Chapel is one of the largest theaters in the Midwest. Among notable alumni is musician Keith O’Connor Murphy.

Academic Programs

Indiana Wesleyan University is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, The Higher Learning Commission and offers Bachelor’s Degrees, post-baccalaureate Certificates, Master’s Degrees, post-master’s Certificates and Doctorates in over 75 fields. The University also offers over 15 Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees online. Noted for Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Music and Teacher Education, the largest programs on campus are in Healthcare fields and Business. The University is comprised of six colleges and schools: College of Arts and Sciences, College of Adult and Professional Studies, School of Nursing, School of Health Sciences, Graduate School and Wesley Seminary. Per the Mission Statement, “Indiana Wesleyan University is a Christ-centered academic community committed to changing the world by developing students in character, scholarship and leadership. [and] will prepare each student to become a world changer. We will accomplish this by drawing students into an integrated experience of intellectual challenge, spiritual growth and leadership development. Thus we will call students to Christian character, expect academic excellence, equip students for success in their vocations, mentor them for leadership and prepare them for service.”

Student Life

There are over 10,000 undergraduate students enrolled in Indiana Wesleyan University, most of whom live on campus among the 20 recently constructed residence halls. The University sponsors over 40 clubs and student organizations, including club sports and intramurals. For the varsity athlete, the red and gray Wildcats, led by Wesley the Wildcat, field teams in 8 sports and participate in NAIA Division II competition. The University’s Vision is detailed in four key strategies: Great Students – We will recruit, provide affordable access to and graduate great students; Great People – We will provide our people with the resources to maximize our great Christian learning community so that it is enjoyable, diverse and unified in purpose; Great Programs – We will offer great academic and co-curricular programs with the infrastructure to support them at sustainable cost; and Great Scope – We will enlarge our scope by fostering a global mindset and serving the global church. “The primary value for Indiana Wesleyan University is Christlikeness.
