Gordon College is a private, 4-year school located in Wenham, MA. Founded in 1889 by Adoniram Judson Gordon as Boston Missionary Training Institute, the school became Gordon Bible College in 1916 and in 1971 its name was changed again to Gordon College. The picturesque, tree-filled 450 acre campus features a blend of traditional collegiate gothic and modern architecture. Wenham, originally part of Salem, has a long and rich history. Settled in 1635, this former Algonquian area (whose peaceful, agriculturally-focused population was believed to have been ravaged by smallpox in the early 17th century) is a part of greater Boston which is just 25 miles to the south.

Academic Programs

Gordon College is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Commission on Institutions of Higher Education and offers Bachelor’s Degrees, Master’s Degrees and post-masters Certificates in over 25 majors. The college is comprised of five Divisions: Division of Humanities, Division of Fine Arts, Division of Education, Division of Natural Sciences and Division of the Social and Behavioral Sciences. Noted for Music, the largest programs on campus are in Biology and Business. Per the Mission Statement, “Gordon College strives to graduate men and women distinguished by intellectual maturity and Christian character, committed to lives of service and prepared for leadership worldwide… Our primary responsibility is to prepare students for the long haul, to make them spiritually, intellectually, relationally and professionally ready for a lifetime of growth—from the first job out of college and beyond, into fields not yet existing. In a time when individuals are likely to switch occupations (not just employers) over the course of a career, a strong liberal arts education offers flexibility and agility. Our mission is the foundation of all we do as we inspire the next generation toward faithful leadership for the common good.”

Student Life

There are over 1700 undergraduate students enrolled in Gordon College; most of whom live on campus among the variety of housing options which range from traditional dormitories to suites, apartments and community living. There are over 50 clubs and student organizations on campus including club sports and intramurals. For the varsity athlete, the Navy blue and white Fighting Scots, led by Scottish Lion Rampant, field teams in 10 sports and participate in NCAA Division III competition. While at school, students are taught under the Core Values of the college: The Bible is inspired of God. There is one infinite Creator God existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Humankind, created in God’s image, fell from a sinless state resulting in sin and spiritual death. The Lord Jesus Christ, the sinner’s substitute, was crucified as atonement for sin. He rose again in body three days later. The Holy Spirit, the Third Person of the Triune God, applies the work of Christ. The believer, turning to God in penitent faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, is accountable for living a sanctified life. At the end of time, the righteous shall enter Heaven the wicked shall be condemned to eternal death.
