Southern Baptist

California Baptist University is a private, 4-year school located in Riverside, CA. The school was founded as California Baptist College in 1950 in El Monte; the campus was relocated to Riverside in 1955 due to growth. The school is under the control of the California Southern Baptist Convention and continues to expand and add buildings year by year. In 2015, California Baptist University launched its first Doctorate program in the School of Nursing. The college reached university status in 1998. The picturesque 160 acre campus features Mission Revival architecture; the Yeager Center received specific recognition for design in 2004. Notable alumni include Saddleback Church founder Rick Warren.

Academic Programs

California Baptist University is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, Senior College and University Commission and offers Bachelor’s degrees, Master’s degrees and Doctorates in over 70 fields of study. The University is comprised of ten colleges and schools: College of Health Science; College of Architecture, Visual Art and Design; College of Arts and Sciences; College of Engineering ; School of Education; School of Business; School of Behavioral Sciences; School of Christian Ministries; School of Nursing; School of Music; and the Online and Professional Studies Division which provides over 30 undergraduate and graduate degrees. Noted for Nursing and Music, the largest programs on campus are in Business and Healthcare fields. Per the Mission Statement, “The primary purpose of this corporation is to conduct regular four-year college courses in education, music, sciences and the liberal arts, and to grant certificates, diplomas and any and all degrees evidencing completion of any course of training, together with any and all honorary degrees and to provide training for Baptist youth and others desiring to be affiliated with Baptist theology and theological instruction and such other instruction as may be needful and advantageous in preparing and qualifying ministers and others for Christian work.”

Student Life

There are over 6,600 undergraduate students enrolled at California Baptist University, many of whom live in campus among the 9 residence halls and living communities. The University sponsors dozens of clubs and student organizations, including club sports and intramurals. For the varsity athlete, the navy blue and gold Lancers field teams in 10 sports and participate in NCAA Division II competition. Calendar traditions include Midnight Madness to kick off basketball season, Yule Festival and TWIRP (The Woman Is Required to Pay).
