Baldwin Wallace University, a private 4-year school, is located in Berea, OH, 15 miles southwest of Cleveland. Berea is known for sandstone and has a rich mining history. Baldwin Wallace University was founded in 1845 by Methodist settlers originally from Connecticut and is set on 120 acres of suburban campus featuring many green and open spaces. The buildings are a blend of traditional collegiate architecture and contemporary structures; a portion of the campus is in the National Register of Historic Places. The University is affiliated with the Methodist Church. Among the notable alumni of Baldwin Wallace University is former astronaut Robert F. Overmeyer.

Academic Programs

Baldwin Wallace University is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, The Higher Learning Commission and offers Bachelor’s Degrees and Master’s Degrees in over 70 majors. There are some courses and completion programs available online, but no undergraduate degree programs. The university is noted for its Nursing, Teacher Education and Music programs; the largest programs are in Business and Visual & Performing Arts. Baldwin Wallace is comprised of 5 Colleges/Schools: College of Arts & Sciences (consisting of four schools: School of Humanities, School of Social Sciences, School of Natural Sciences, Mathematics & Computing and School of Health, Physical Education & Sport Sciences), School of Business, School of Education, School of Health Sciences and Conservatory of Music. Per the Mission statement, the university “is an academic community committed to the liberal arts and sciences as the foundation for lifelong learning. The University fulfills this mission through a rigorous academic program that is characterized by excellence in teaching and learning within a challenging, supportive environment that enhances students’ intellectual and spiritual growth. Baldwin Wallace assists students in their preparation to become contributing, compassionate citizens of an increasingly global society and encourages their pursuit of personal and professional excellence.

Student Life

There are over 3300 undergraduate students enrolled in Baldwin Wallace University, approximately half live on campus among the available residence halls, suites and apartments. The city of Berea does not allow Greek housing on campus, but there are honor societies on campus. The university sponsors over 100 clubs and student organizations including club sports and intramurals. For the varsity athlete, the brown and gold Yellow Jackets, led by Stinger, field teams in 12 sports and participate in NCAA Division III competition. Traditions include April Reign (a week-long event featuring contests before Finals) and the BW Bach Festival (the oldest Bach festival in nation). “Since its founding, Baldwin Wallace University has pursued the goals of its pioneering founders, offering a superior, personalized education that acts as a great leveling tool, fosters personal and professional excellence and prepares students as contributing, compassionate citizens.
